Updated: Sep 10, 2023

I am a retired RN with over35 yrs of experience caring for people living with dementia in a variety of roles. Even though I have completed and published A to Z of Dementia Care there is continually new information to learn. Here are a couple of recent posts I am continuing to learn more about dementia from these posts Studies in Sapin have shown a negative link between some artificial sweetener and cardiovascular risk factors Snoring Those who have loud snoring and obstructed breathing can be aging their brains by years and hurting their brain health by depriving themselves of getting deep sleep, leading to higher chance of stroke Alzheimers and cognitive decline according to researchers with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Paris-Cité, Paris, France.

Deep sleep is one of the best indicators of sleep quality and the study found that for every 10% decrease in deep sleep, the white matter hyperintensities increased, equivalent to the brain aging 2.3 years. This is part of the article "Association of Polysomnographic Sleep Parameters With Neuroimaging Biomarkers of Cerebrovascular Disease in Older Adults With Sleep Apnea" published in the Neurology on May 10, 2023. for more information on the importance of sleep see page 34 A to Z of Dementia Care Solving the puzzle to deliver excellent care to people living with dementia available on Kindle Amazon.
